Non-Sporting Dogs

They vary in terms of coat, size, personality and overall appearances. They are simply opposite to Sporting dogs. They are often not too active but some of the breeds in this group are considered to be active. Non-sporting dogs are also known as “companion dogs”. They include American Eskimo Dog, French Bulldog, Tibetan Terrier, Finnish Spitz, Chow Chow, Bichon Fries, Boston,Terrier etc.

The majority of the dogs that comprise the Non-Sporting Group were bred to perform specific jobs that now have become obsolete so the animals have become companions. The personalities of the dogs that make up this breed group have very wide variations so it makes sense to consult breed-specific information sources before selecting one of these dogs as a pet. Some of the breeds in this group include the Dalmatian, Bichon Frise, Lhasa apso and the poodle.

In the non-sporting group, there is a huge diversity in origin, size and type of dogs. They bred many in the non-sporting groups to do specific jobs but because it is obsolete, they became companion dogs. The most popular are miniature and standard poodles.
