Hound GroupThey are primarily used for hunting as sporting dogs but the difference between them is that sporting dogs hunt by sniffing smell into air while hound dogs hunt by sniffing scents on the ground. They naturally possessed tremendous stamina. This breed includes Afghan Hound, Bloodhound, Basset Hound, Greyhound, Whippet, Irish Wolfhound, Pharaoh Hound, Saluki etc. The Hound Group are also favored for hunting because of their instinct to follow fast-moving game like rabbits and foxes. They are renowned for their keen sense of smell and sharp eyesight and tend to be great pets due to their gentle, easy to get along with nature. Subgroups include sight hounds such as greyhounds, whippets and Irish wolfhounds; scent hounds like basset hounds, beagles and dachshunds; and large game hounds such as the beautiful Rhodesian Ridgeback. Dogs in the hound group are great hunters. Some use their intense sense of smell to trail their prey. Other hounds have tremendous stamina which shows when they run down their quarry. Some dogs in the hound group are beagles, black and tan coonhounds, American foxhound, and the bloodhound. Hounds have a very distinct howl that is not for everyone.
