The horse is a large odd-toed ungulate mammal, one of eight living species of the family Equidae. Horses exhibit a diverse array of coat colors and distinctive markings. The various breeds of horses are distinctive in characteristics, such as confirmation, color, intelligence, performance that are transmitted consistently to their offspring. The age of the horse depends on the breed, management and environment. However, the domestic horse today has a life expectancy of 25 to 30 years. The Sugar Puff, who had been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s oldest then-living pony, which died at the age 56.

Physical Attributes: Horses are considerably varied in size, height and weight from one breed to another breed. Horses can be found in diverse array of coat colors and distinctive markings, The various breeds of horses are distinctive in characteristics, such as confirmation, color, intelligence, performance that are transmitted consistently to their offspring.

Reproductive System: Females give birth to one foal (occasionally twins and rarely triplets) after an 11-month gestation period. Foals are weaned after seven months. Pregnancy Period lasts for approximately 335–340 days. Foals are capable of standing and running within a short time.

Major Breeds of Horses:

American Quarter Horse: They are known for their versatility. They are very popular equine breed and that is usually used by the horse riders.

Missouri Fox Trotter: Breed named after its unusual gait and smooth movement.
Appaloosa Horse: This horse's spotted coat and fur is its most recognize characteristic.

Arabian Horse: Arabian horses are well known for being affectionate and bonding well with humans.
Hanoverian Horse: The Hanoverian horse excels in the equestrian disciplines of jumping, dressage, and even ting.

Pinto Horses: Their coloring provided a degree of natural camouflage.
Ponies: Distinctive pony breed (breeding two ponies) & is less than 14.2 hands high.

Miniature Horses: Miniature Horse Breed Makes a Great Household Pet. They are very affectionate and gentle and considered to be the perfect breed to be used as a pet.

 

American Paint Horse:  They are very strong breed of horse and have an easy going temperament. They are generally used for cattle work.
Mustang Horses: Mustangs can range in size of between 13 and 16 hands.
American Standard bred Horse: They are usually used in racing and most of this breed can completes a mile race in 3 minutes.
American Saddle bred Horse:  This Breed of horse is a result of selective breeding of four breeds of horses.
Morgan Horse: Historically the official horse breed of the United States .

Clydesdale Horses: Known for their large frames and study working abilities.
 

Diet of a horse The diet of a horse should consist of forage feed, boiled barley, flaked and cooked maize, fruits, eggs, cod liver oil, nuts or mixes. Water should always be available to the horse all the time and is particularly important prior to feeding. Mature horses that perform little or no work may be fed on good quality forage alone with no need to supplement their diet with any other feed.

 

Horse caring: Almost all horses will require a certain level of winterizing, stall cleanliness, vaccinations and several other things. They need vital exercise satisfy their physical needs. They also need regular company of humans. Apart from that, your horse will require shelter to protect it from wind, rain, and the sun. Horses require a constant supply of fresh, clean water. Proper bedding is vital for horses kept in a barn or stable. They require grooming daily to keep its coat healthy. However, don’t over groom a horse that spends most or all of its time in the pasture. The natural oils in its coat help to keep your horse warm and dry.
