The major difference between Doves and Pigeon is their size. Doves are smaller and sleeker with pointed tails, while Pigeons are larger and heavier than Doves with basically rounded tails. Doves and pigeons, domesticated for many centuries and used in the past as sacrifices to gods, raised for food, carrying messages and kept as a pet. Now a day, tame pigeons are still used to carry messages, but more commonly used for racing, meat, scientific experiments, hunting and used as pets. The white dove generally releases in marriage ceremonies. Dove and pigeon can be excellent pets as they can easily tame, and are healthy and active. They are attractive and have cool nature. They have calm and gentle which is magnificent to hear. They require very little maintenance and generally not so much expensive.

Pigeons are free to fly around as they please. They only return to their pigeon holes to eat and to spend the night. It seems easy keeping pigeons, but it really requires lot of care. Pigeons eat a lot. So you need to spend a considerable sum of money buying seeds and peas for them to eat. There is another big problem with keeping pigeons and that is they leave their droppings all over the place. This is definitely a health hazard.

Doves can really sing well. This is really a pleasure. You can sure keep these birds for the pleasure of their songs too. But like pigeons, they eat a lot and so this has to spend a large sum of money keeping them. These birds are not cheap either. They can cost hundreds of dollars each.
